For half a year there has been no investigation of Enver Seitosmanov, a resident of Balaklava district, suspected of participating in the organization Hizb ut-Tahrir, which is banned in Russia, writes “Crimea.Realii ” referring to his lawyer Emil Kurbedinov.“It is not clear at all on what basis Enver is accused. So far, we have not been provided with any intelligible documents on this issue, ” the lawyer notes. According to him, Seitosmanov’s health deteriorated at the pre-trial detention center. He wrote several times to the administration of the SIZO, but had no medical examination so far. “He also said that for a long time he could not get them to give him Koran. It is almost impossible, but I think we will try to help him with that, we will try to get a clear answer, why the jail administration does not allow to read the holy book of Muslims, ” said Kurbedinov.
On August 31, the Leninsky City Court of Sevastopol, controlled by Russia, extended the term of the detention for Enver Seitosmanov, a resident of Balaklava District, for two months (until November 7). Enver Seitosmanov is accused of a crime under part 2 of the article 205.5 Criminal Code of Russia “Participation in the activities of a terrorist organization.”
The Sitosmanov brothers Ernes and Enver were searched and detained by the Russian security forces on May 10, in Tilovo, Balaklava region of Sevastopol. Ernes was subsequently released. Enver was pressed with criminal charges.
The next day, the Russian-controlled Leninsky District Court of Sevastopol arrested Enver Seitosmanov.
Representatives of the international Islamic political organization Hizb ut-Tahrir call their mission the unification of all Muslim countries in the Islamic caliphate, but they reject the terrorist methods of achieving this and say they are subjected to unfair persecution in Russia and in the Crimea occupied by it in 2014.
The Supreme Court of Russia banned “Hizb ut-Tahrir” in 2003, including it in the list of associations called “terrorist”. The defense of the arrested and convicted Crimeans in the “Hizb ut-Tahrir” case consider that their persecution is motivated by religion.
The lawyers note that the Russian law enforcement agencies in this case persecuted mostly Crimean Tatars, as well as Ukrainians, Russians, Tajiks, Azerbaijanis and Crimeans of another ethnic background who profess Islam.
International law prohibits the execution of the legislation of the occupying state on the occupied territory.
