Have you been wondering about those supervisors from 21 countries who were mentioned yesterday by the head of the Crimean election committee Mikhail Malyshev? Here are some of them.
The invitation has been sent to the head of the French “National Front” Marine Le Pen, the chairman of the Italian “Lega Nord” Lorenzo Fontana, the leader of the Freedom Party of Austria Andreas Mölzer, and the Belgian party “Flemish Interest”.
Currently, the only hope for acknowledgement of international legitimacy of the Crimean referendum is associated with the representatives of the right wing in the European Parliament. “We are some of those few who try to understand the position of Russia,” –
said Andreas Mölzer upon receiving the invitation.
It should be reminded that the Freedom Party of Austria was founded by former national socialists. One of the main vectors of its activity has been a struggle for cancelling the law of 1947 which forbids restoration of the National Socialist Party.
According to Marine Le Pen, she has not yet decided whether she will make a trip to Crimea. Marine is a daughter of the nationalist politician Jean-Marie Le Pen who used to be the leader of the “National Front” from the day it was founded and until 2011, having passed this position to his Marine. The peak of the party’s success was in the 80s, but nowadays it has only two seats in the French Parliament. By the way, in 2009-2011, the “National Front” had a cooperation agreement with the Ukrainian party “Svoboda”. “I admit, and I do not conceal it, that I admire Vladimir Putin to a certain extent,” – said Le Pen in an interview with the Russian periodical “Kommersant” in the end of 2011.
The decision about the trip to the Crimean peninsula has also not yet been made by representatives of the far-right Belgian party “Flemish Interest” which closely cooperates with the French “National Front”. This party is better known as the “Flemish Block”: it changed its name to “Flemish Interest” after it had been charged with breaking anti-racist legislation in 2004.
It should be noted that Lorenzo Fontana received the invitation personally from the Russian Ambassador Alexey Kornov.
Bulgarian right-wing populists have not remained indifferent as well: the party “Attack”, chaired by Volen Siderov, is also sending its supervisors. Hungarian colleagues write that the nationalist Jobbik is sending its representatives to Crimea likewise.
