A Crimean Tatar activist and blogger Nariman Memedinov was put in a psychiatric hospital on June 28. This is reported by the “Crimean solidarity” movement, referring to the lawyer Emil Kurbedinov.
According to him, Memedinov was put in hospital for at least 20 days for a “examination”. The lawyer noted that the activist was placed in a hospital without a court decision, based only on the investigator’s decision.
Memedinov is accused of publicly calling for terrorism through the Internet (p. 2 art. 205.2 CC) because of the videos posted on YouTube in 2013 and 2014.
On March 22, the activist was detained immediately after the search in the village of Kholmovka, Bakhchisaray district. During the search, the security officers broke the door, behaved rudely, used obscene language and immediately put Memedinov on the floor and handcuffed him. Law enforcers seized the phones of the activist and his wife, a tablet and several books.
In July 2017, the Bakhchsarai district court was already considering the case of Memedinov. He was then accused of participating in an uncoordinated meeting near the house of Seydamet Mustafayev, who was searched. According to the “Crimean solidarity”, Memediminov covered the situation and video-recorded everything. In addition, he tried to keep people from reacting to law enforcement provocation. However, the court found him guilty and was fined with 10 thousand rubles.
