The court in Crimea extended the arrest of the defendants of the Bakhchisarai “Hizb ut-Tahrir” case

The Kyiv District Court of Simferopol extended the detention of the defendants Server Mustafayev and Edem Smailov for two months in the Bakhchisarai “Hizb ut-Tahrir case”, reports “Krym.Realii” with a reference to its correspondents, the two defendants will remain in jail until December 9.Coordinator of the “Crimean Solidarity” Server Mustafayev and the Crimean Tatar, Muslim Edema Smailov were detained by the Russian security forces in Crimea on May 21, 2018. The charges against them were attached to the Bakhchisarai “case of Hizb ut-Tahrir.”

The representatives of the international Islamic political organization “Hizb ut-Tahrir” pronounce their mission to unify all Muslim countries in the Islamic caliphate, and they reject the terrorist methods of achieving this and say they are subjected to unfair persecution in Russia and in Crimea occupied by Russia in 2014.

The Supreme Court of Russia banned “Hizb ut-Tahrir” in 2003, including it in the list of associations called “terrorist.” The defense of the Crimeans arrested and convicted in the “Hizb ut-Tahrir” case think that they were persecuted because of their religious beliefs.

The lawyers note that the Russian law enforcement agencies persecute mostly Crimean Tatars in this case, as well as Ukrainians, Russians, Tajiks, Azerbaijanis and Crimeans of another ethnic background who profess Islam.

International law prohibits the execution of the legislation of the occupying state on the occupied territory.
